OverviewHatha Yoga Desha classes reflect the progressive nature of Shadow Yoga teachings. All students new to Shadow Yoga begin at the introductory level.
Class levels
Course content Each course consists of chalanas (churning warm ups) followed by a prelude/vyayama which consists of squats, viraparampara (warrior/martial stances), suryanamaskara (sun salutations), asanas (seats), yoga-asana and conclusion. Teacher demonstrations and verbal instructions are given. Where appropriate, personal adjustments are offered. Simple and more complex variations of stances, suryanamaskara, seats and yoga-asana will also be suggested and can be modified to suit people with injuries or medical conditions. Learning to move the body without force Learning to fold and unfold the body without imposition, while cultivating natural rhythmic breathing, is fundamental to Shadow Yoga/Nṛtta Sādhanā. Every class matters Because of the progressive method of teaching, it’s important to come to every class. Each week, new elements of the preludes/vyayamas are introduced. In the final class of the course, students follow a led practice. This allows students to flow through the sequence without stopping. The emphasis is on unforced breathing, working to your own level.
