Course conceptClass levels at Hatha Yoga Desha reflect the progressive nature of the Shadow Yoga preludes.
Each course consists of chalanas (churning warm ups) followed by a given prelude consisting of squats, viraparamapra (warrior/martial stances), suryanamaskara (sun salutations), asanas (seats), yoga-asana and conclusion. By learning a set sequence you can focus on the natural folding and unfolding of the body while cultivating rhythmic breathing. Because of the sequential and progressive process it is important to come to every class, each of which will include some demonstration by the teacher, verbal instruction and where appropriate personal adjustments. New elements are continually introduced and the final class in each course is a led practice to allow students to flow through the practice with the emphasis on smooth breathing, while working at their own level. Simple and more complex variations of stances, suryanamaskara, seats and yoga-asana will be given and can be modified to accommodate people with injuries or medical conditions. |
